“What do I tell my students today? How do I explain this?”

This was a common sentiment this morning amongst educators in the greater Los Angeles region. Los Angeles Unified School District is a diverse community comprised of a majority of students of color. How do we diminish their fears when our own are bubbling at the surface?

This is not a time to lower our heads and stand down.

Center for Powerful Public School’s mission is to close the opportunity gap for underrepresented students by providing engaging and rigorous learning environments that open doors to opportunity. We work to ensure that every student has access to high quality education is prepared for college, career, and life.

And we, along with our partners and educators, will continue to fight for equity, now more than ever.

The presidential election results showed America is a deeply divided country. However, we must unite and work more diligently than ever to make sure that our must vulnerable populations and peers are represented and cared for and continue to make all voices heard.

So today, let’s be kind to each other, listen to each other and continue to speak truth to power. But most of all, we want to urge both educators, community partners, families, students, and elected officials to keep fighting for equity and make our collective voices heard.

The sun has risen this morning and we need rise with it.
