How students feel about themselves is the key to their successful academic performance. The Center works with schools to personalize the learning environment in order to address students’ social and emotional challenges and build on their assets.
Advisory programs give students access to academic and psycho/social-personalized supports with a specific teacher/staff advisor in an advisory period that features:
- Academic support
- Skill building
- Group and team-building activities
- College and career counseling
- Portfolio development and work
The Center provides technical assistance to schools to support the design, implementation and ongoing sustainability of advisory programs. Center Executive Director Jeanne Fauci is the lead author of The Advisory Toolkit, a 400-page workbook and accompanying DVD that guides schools in successful advisory design, implementation, curriculum and assessment. Ms. Fauci and Center staff have worked with school faculty and administration to design advisory programs at over 20 middle and high schools.
