Michael Key serves as the Director of Finance and Operations where he utilizes his expertise in accounting and finance to improve processes and drive innovation to support the work of Center for Powerful Public Schools. Prior to joining the Center, Michael was an Education Pioneer fellow working as the Budget Manager/Assistant Controller at the Achievement School District in Memphis, Tennessee. In his role with the Achievement School District, some of Michael’s duties included developing and implementing departmental budgets totaling $6M, managing the bi-monthly payroll process for over 100 employees while enhancing the efficiency of the payroll process by 35%, reviewing 250 vendor contracts for accuracy and providing accounting support around audits, general ledger, monthly closing and financial statements. Prior to working with the Achievement School District, Michael worked in the for-profit sector for 9 years as a senior accountant and business analyst. Michael has a BA in Accounting from Ohio State University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
