Our mission is to build the capacity of educators in order to create and sustain powerful public schools that prepare every student for college, career, and life.
2003
Founded by Dr. Karen Hunter Quartz, Cris Gutierrez and sponsored by UCLA Center X to create small, personalized schools in Los Angeles
2008
Center receives nonprofit status. Jeanne Fauci becomes Founding Executive Director.
2011
Became the first regional Linked Learning Center
2007
Helped launch the first 10 Pilot Schools (small, autonomous district schools) in LAUSD
2010
Funded by James Irvine Foundation to be first So Cal provider of coaching and technical assistance for Multiple Pathways initiative (later to become Linked Learning)
2016
Launched LA Regional Coalition for Linked Learning
2020
Pandemic- Center pivots to continue providing programs, coaching, and professional development virtually. First online Prep 4 Success takes place Summer of 2020.
2019
Jeanne Fauci retires,
Dr. Alicia Montgomery becomes Executive Director
2021
Gates grant allows us to focus on data and measurement for Continuous Improvement work
2022
Acquires SpeakUp organization, enabling the Center to expand services to families and communities.
HISTORY
Our organization has a long history of working with educators across the greater Los Angeles area. Together, we’ve partnered with many schools and school districts to cultivate a community of innovative educators focused on equity.
